Non-Domestic card spending in Restaurants/Dining by month: Central Bank figures to August 2026
The Central Bank of Ireland's table puts "Non-Domestic" card spending in its "Restaurants/Dining" sub-sector at 19.3% of all card spending there in 2025 (€1,852.4 million of €9,602.2 million), and 18.8% in 2024. Month by month, the highest share from March 2023 on was July 2025, at 25.6%, and the lowest was December 2023, at 12.2%. In July 2025 the Non-Domestic figure was €229.2 million. All shares are ours, and these are card payments only, in euro as published, with no price adjustment. They are not total sales and not volume. The table uses the labels Domestic and Non-Domestic, and this page does not say what each covers.
What share of Restaurants/Dining card spending is Non-Domestic?
For the whole of 2025 it was 19.3%, and for 2024 it was 18.8%. Both are ours: the Central Bank's Non-Domestic value divided by its value for all.
In 2024 that was €1,679.6 million of €8,934.6 million. In 2025 it was €1,852.4 million of €9,602.2 million. The sums are ours, added from the Central Bank's twelve monthly figures for each year.
The Central Bank calls this sub-sector "Restaurants/Dining", and we use that label exactly. This page does not say what it includes, and the table has no separate figure for cafés.
Which months had the highest and lowest Non-Domestic share?
In each year from 2023 to 2025 the highest share was in July and the lowest was in December. In 2026, to August, the highest was July and the lowest was March. That is a count of what the table shows, with no reason attached.
The Central Bank's own note says: "The increase in the volume of cards issued and related payment activity in March 2023 is due to inclusion of additional customer accounts that fall within the scope of the reporting requirements." So this page compares only months from March 2023 on, and 2023 below runs from March to December.
| Year | Highest month | Share | Lowest month | Share |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2023 (March to December) | July | 23.6% | December | 12.2% |
| 2024 | July | 24.7% | December | 12.6% |
| 2025 | July | 25.6% | December | 12.9% |
| 2026 (January to August) | July | 24.9% | March | 17.3% |
Over all months from March 2023 on, the highest was July 2025 at 25.6% and the lowest was December 2023 at 12.2%. For comparison, August 2026 was 22.0% (€221.4 million) and January 2026 was 17.9% (€123.4 million), both ours.
How much was Non-Domestic card spending in the highest month?
In July 2025, the highest share month, the Non-Domestic figure was €229.2 million (229,175 thousand in the Central Bank's table), out of €894.5 million for all card spending in Restaurants/Dining that month. That is 25.6%, which is ours.
July 2026 was higher in euro, at €246.4 million, but its share was 24.9%, so it was not the highest share. The euro figures are the Central Bank's and are not adjusted for prices.
What do Domestic and Non-Domestic mean here?
The Central Bank's table uses these labels, under its geographical description, and this page does not say what each covers. We use "Domestic" and "Non-Domestic" exactly as the table gives them. If you need the definition, it is the Central Bank's to give, so check its Monthly Card Payment Statistics page and notes.
For the sub-sector total on its own, see our page on card spending in Restaurants/Dining. For the Remote and Non-Remote split, see our page on Remote card payments.
Where do these numbers come from?
They come from the Central Bank of Ireland's Monthly Card Payment Statistics, Table 4, Card Expenditure by Sector and Sub-Sector. We took the sub-sector Restaurants/Dining, split by the geographical descriptions All, Domestic and Non-Domestic, in value (thousands of euro), month by month from October 2022 to August 2026. We read the file on 20 October 2026.
